Hint: it's good with bacon
Hi there! I'm feeling better today. Whatever I was feeling, is gone now. Thanks for the concern. And is it the end of the month already? Where did all of the time go? November was a good month, but I'm looking forward to December!  I will  be doing  lots of holiday baking!

Here's the hint for today's thingamajig:

it can be stinky
can cost an arm and a leg
but it's so worth it!

What is this?

Photo #303 Revealed

It was a CD aka a compact disc.
I don't know about you, but I still use these sometimes. I'm kinda old school like that.

Photo #302 Revealed

They were coffee beans.
I only like coffee with hot chocolate, aka mochas.

Hint: it's not as popular as it used to be
The second thingamajig:

it is a loser
will be gone and forgotten
and no one will care

It's sad, but true. What is it?

And don't forget to guess the second thingamajig of the day...

Enjoy the rest of your day.

Photo of the day, #302

Hint: It grows on trees
How you are feeling way better than me. I'm not feeling all that great. I didn't sleep well last night and my stomach has been upset all morning. I wonder if I got food poisoning.

Anyway, since it's Two-sday, I will have 2 photos for you to guess. Here's a haiku hint for the first thingamajig:

a must-have for most
or else they cannot function
it's an addiction

What is this?

what is this thingamajig?
Hope you all had a good weekend. You know what's weird? It rained yesterday. We are supposed to be complaining about how cold and miserable it is. It's been quite warm these past few and it looks like we will be a warm week. Almost warm enough for guys to go around shirtless. Yay, for global warming! Just kidding. These warm temperatures aren't good for the polar bears. I feel bad for them. The ice caps are melting and they are losing their homes.  So I'm glad to hear that the WWF and Coca-Cola are trying to do something about it. And if you want to help, go http://www.icoke.ca/extras/polarbear to make a donation. Coca-Cola will match each donation made. Thank you for caring, Coca-Cola!

Today's thingamajig is an easy one.

you don't need a hint
for today's thingamajig
it's a no-brainer!

What is it?

Photo #300 Revealed

It was a magazine.
One point if you said "book" and  two points if you said "magazine."

Photo of the day, #300

Hint: it can be recycled
Hello there! Hope your Sunday is nice and sunny. It's nice and warm here! It feels like spring! The snow is melting! The roads are all brown and slushy. I am enjoying the warm weather, but I don't want all the snow to melt. I want a white Christmas!

Today's hint:

makes the time go by
sitting in the waiting room
or standing in line

What is it?

Eye Candy for the Ladies! It's Will Demps Shirtless

Image from Google.
This sexy man is Will Demps. He's a professional football player. He has played for the Baltimore Ravens, New York Giants and the Houston Texans. He is currently a free agent. He's so gorgeous because he's half African-American and half Korean! And he has the dreamiest smile. What's not to love?

Enjoy, ladies!

Photo #299 Revealed

It was nori (a type of seaweed).
My sister made these sushi especially for me for my birthday dinner party. It was quite tasty.

Hint: popular in Asia
Well hello there! Thanks for taking the time to visit me. You could be doing other things like online shopping. Speaking of which, did you score any "Black Friday" deals? I didn't buy anything. Just because it's cheap, doesn't mean I need it. I believe in less is more.

Anyway, here's the hint for today's thingamajig:

an Asian delight
crispy, salty, sweet, spicy
and high in fiber!

What is it?

Guess who this is for bonus points!

mystery shirtless man
It's been way too long since I've done this feature. I'm bringing sexy back! For my new readers, on random Saturdays, I post a cropped photo of some mystery man for you to guess who it is. But don't worry, there are hints.

This week's mystery man:

  • he's an American football player
  • his has a younger brother
  • his mom is Asian
  • he owns a bar
  • with is good looks, of course he has done some modelling!
Who is this sexy mystery man? He will be revealed in tomorrow's edition of "Sexy Shirtless Sundays."

Hint: they range in sizes and prices
Hope all of my American readers all had an awesome Thanksgiving last night! Anyone have any leftovers they want to share with me? I'm still trying to gain some weight. Today is supposed to be a ridiculously windy day! According to the weather forecast, the winds are going to be gusting up to 90km/hr (~56miles/hr).  I just might get blown away.

This is the hint for today's photo?

it needs some body
but not just any body
must be a good fit

What is this thingamajig?

Why I didn't post yesterday...

Angry Little Girls comic.
Like 5 year olds, I get easily distracted... I need to learn how to focus!

Photo of the day, #297

Hint: can be both savoury and sweet
Well hello there! So it turns we caught the mouse. It died underneath the stove. No wonder we didn't hear any more squeaking and squealing. I feel kinda bad for the mouse. All it wanted was some warmth from the cold outside and some food. There's no crime in that, and yet we felt the need to kill it... I'm a horrible person!

I'm not going to do a haiku today. It's not easy for me to come up with haikus. It takes some thinking and I don't feel like it today. Today's thingamajig grows on trees, especially in sunny  places. The United States is a top producer. It can be eaten raw or cooked. It is high in fiber and vitamin E. What is it?

Photo #296 Revealed

It was a turnip.

It's a type of root vegetable that is in season now, especially during American Thanksgiving. You can cook them like potatoes. They are good mashed with some butter and bacon.

Have you had these before?

Photo #295 Revealed

It was a light switch cover.

Hint: it is high in Vitamin C
This is the second photo of the day. See if you can guess what it is without any hints. Bonus points for the correct answer! Good luck and don't forget to guess the other thingamajig of the day.

Photo of the day, #295

Hint: it's usually made of plastic
It's Two-sday! I got not one, but two photos for you! It's double the fun!

Here's the hint for the first one:

everywhere you go,
there is one in every room
sometimes even two

It was a snap button.

Hint: the name of this comes from the sound it makes
Hope you are having a good Monday so far. In case you were wondering, I didn't catch any mice yet. I've set up traps all around the house, but I haven't seen dead carcasses yet. I haven't even heard a squeak all morning. I'm not sure if this is a good thing. Either the mice died on their own or they decided to pack up and leave. I'll take either. But I think it's unlikely.

Here's the haiku hint for today's thingamajig:

always in a pair
stuck together forever
useless when apart

what is this?

Photo #293 Revealed

They were  peppercorns.
This is what they look like before they are ground, in case you were wondering.

Hint: a very common household item
So yesterday I spoke too soon about not liking cats. I woke up this morning to sounds of shrieking and screaming. It turns out I have a mouse in my house! Where are the cats when I need one? I know it's freaking freezing out there (it's -25 degrees Celsius), but why do mice always choose our place to hang out? Couldn't they have gone over to my neighbours' homes? Their homes are so much larger and much nicer! Our house is the smallest and probably the cheapest on the block. This is like the third year in a row that we had a mouse problem. It's so frustrating because they poop everywhere and make a mess of everything. But I really shouldn't complain. I am grateful that I have a place I can call home. At least I'm not living on the streets and freezing out there!

Have you ever had a pest problem?

Anyway, today's thingamajig isn't mouse droppings...

sits on the table
besides its partner in crime
'til they are needed

What is it?

Photo #292 Revealed

It was chocolate.
A piece of dark chocolate a day keeps the doctor away. It's high in antioxidants and is good for your heart! So go have some dark chocolate!

Photo of the day, #292

Hint: popular this time of the year
Hey there! So today I learned something new. Apparently today is "Cat-urday." If you are out of the loop, like me, this means that on Saturdays, people post photos of cats. Don't ask why. I guess people are crazy about cats. And no, today's thingamajig does not have anything to do with cats. I prefer dogs.

Anyway, here's today's hint:

a guilty pleasure
sometimes sweet, sometimes bitter
but always so good

What is this?

Photo #291 Revealed

It was a memory card.

Hint: It's a rectangular shape
It's Friday. The weekend is here.  I should be more excited, but it's going to be a cold, snowy weekend. And when I say cold, I mean -20 degrees C ( -4 degrees F) weather, plus wind chill! I will be staying home most of the weekend and doing a lot of shovelling!

don't know what to say
about this thingamajig
so you're on your own

I'm having writer's block. You are going to have to do without the extra hints today. But I'll give you bonus points if you guess it correctly.

Have a good weekend!

Happy "Fry-day!"

Hi there! Hope you are having a good day so far. It's another cold day! You can find me drinking hot chocolate with whipping cream. And if you live in a place that is too hot for hot chocolate, can we trade places?

Here's today's hint:

one time use only
whether you like it or not
keeps things in its place

What is it?

Photo #289 Revealed

It was [an Asian] pear.
These are really crunchy and juicy.

Special Post: Package Pals 2011

This is what I sent to my "Package Pals."
from top left, clockwise: stamping markers,  mini  Canada shirt, a set of Canadian coins,
a maple leaf cookie cutter, a card and a bag of the most delicious chocolates!
As some of you know, I love exchanging snail mail! So when Gentri decided to organize "Package Pals," I was all over it! It's a fun way to get to know a new blogger. This time I was paired up with Elizabeth at The Young Retiree.  She's young. She's retired! And I'm jealous! As a retiree, she has the freedom to do whatever her heart desires! Oh, the joys of being an American Navy wife!

She lives in sunny California, so I can understand why she hasn't travelled to Canada before. It's true what they say. It is cold here! I often wonder why I haven't moved away to some tropical island. That being said, I like being Canadian. Our bills are prettier than American bills. I didn't send Elizabeth any Canadian bills, but I did go through my coin collection and chose the shiniest coins for her. In addition, I sent her a mini Canadian shirt and a maple leaf cookie cutter. There is something so special about the iconic maple leaf. It's simple, classy and humble. Just like Canadians! ;) And because I like to give practical gifts,  I gave her a set of stamping markers so that she can sell more of her hand-stamped stationary at her Etsy Store. And those chocolates I sent her are almost better than bacon! ;)

In case you are wondering what I received, you can head over to Gentri's or Elizabeth's blog. I don't even know what I've received. I'm still waiting for my package to arrive...

I had fun with the Package Pals, Gentri. Thanks for organizing the swap! You were great! Do it again, another time?

Hint: it has high water content
Well hi there! I got some exciting news to share! I weighed myself at the gym last night and I gained 2 pounds! This means I'm 2 pounds closer to being the average size for my height. As some of you may know, I'm been trying to gain some weight to keep me warm during the winter months. Laugh if you must, but I am very proud of my accomplishment. You don't know how frustratingly difficult it is for me to gain weight.

Anyway, here's the haiku hint for today's thingamajig:

outside is yellow
inside is white and juicy
taste is quite mellow

What is this?

Photo #288 Revealed

It was a pair of eyeglasses.
These were my mom's old eyeglasses.

Photo #287 Revealed

It was a golf ball.
I wonder why networks even air golf on TV. It's so boring to watch and there aren't even any good looking golf players!

Hint: for some, they can't live without them
Here's the hint for today's second thingamajig of the day:

what is old is new
apparently geek is chic
but who really cares?

What is this?

And don't forget to guess the other thingamajig of the day.

Photo of the day, #287

Hint: they come in assorted colours
Well, hello there! Thanks for dropping by. You are too kind. Or maybe you are just bored. Either case, I appreciate it. If you are new to my blog, on Tuesdays, I post 2 photos for you to guess. I call this feature "Two-sday." Get it? ;)

For the first photo, here's the haiku hint:

snow is not its friend
neither are wind, hail nor rain
it likes to stay dry

What is it?

Photo #286 Revealed

It was a seam ripper.
I use mine all the time...

Monday, November 14, 2011

Photo of the day, #286

Hint: it's a type of tool
Hope you all had a good weekend. It's getting cold here and I don't have enough fat to keep me warm. And when it's windy out, like today, I feel like I'm going to fly away. But maybe that's not a bad idea. The wind can blow me south to some place where it's always sunny, like Hawaii!!

Here's the haiku for today's thingamajig:

have it next to you
humans are prone to error
it is a fact of life

Do you know what this is?

Photo #285 Revealed

They were lentils.
Vegetarians are kinda sexy. Do you agree?

Photo of the day, #285

Hint: Canada is a top producer
Hope you are having a good weekend so far. I don't know about you, but I tend to do my chores on Sundays. Today I vacuumed, did some laundry and shoveled some snow. It's not fun, but someone has to do it.

Anyway, here's the haiku hint for today's thingamajig:

a vegan's delight
delicious in soups and stews
try it with curry

What is this?

Photo #284 Revealed

It was jam/jelly.
And of course the "soul mate" I was referring to yesterday is peanut butter. ;)

Photo of the day, #284

Hint: it should be refrigerated once opened
Happy Saturday! Hope your weekend is off to a fun start. Today, we finally got our first snowfall! Usually this time of the year, we would already have a few inches of snow. I was quite impressed with our warm weather we've been getting the last few weeks. In fact, it was only a couple of days ago, when people were still golfing! But the snow is kinda nice. It makes the city look so much more photogenic! I was getting tired of seeing all that brown.

Anyways, here's the haiku hint of today's thingamajig:

alone in a jar
until it met its soul mate
now they live as one

What is this?

Photo #283 Revealed

It was a [war] monument.

Here's a closer look at the inscription:
for the Canadian soldiers

Friday, November 11, 2011

Photo of the day, #283

Hint: built to last
As a proud Canadian, I just want to take the time to thank the veterans who fought for Canada so that I could enjoy the freedoms I experience on a daily basis. Words alone cannot express my gratitude. Your legacy will forever be in our hearts! Today's thingamajig goes out to all the Canadian soldiers out there!

honoring the past
celebrating legacies
'til the end of time

What is today's thingamajig?

p.s in case you've missed the past couple of posts, haiku = hints

Photo #282 Revealed

It was a poppy.
For my international followers, November 11, is Remembrance Day, a national Canadian holiday. We wear poppies to remember our fallen soldiers and also to celebrate our veterans.

In Flanders' Fields by John McCrae, 1915
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
